Is pitch-shifting available for all performance types?
Pitch-Shifting is a VIP feature available on both iOS and Android. VIP users can enjoy it when creating solo recordings, duet invites, and group recordings. Just make sure you're using the latest app versions and you’re good to go!
Minimum App Version Needed for Solo Recordings:
Android: 12.3.3 or higher
iOS: 13.2.1 or higher
Minimum App Version Needed for Duets and Group Recordings:
Android: 12.3.7 or higher
iOS: 13.4.5 or higher
Will pitch-shifting change the sound quality of the backing track (arrangement)?
Not at all – the sound quality stays the same no matter how much you shift the key of the backing track. While pitch changes can make the track feel a bit different (especially if background vocals are affected), the audio quality and tempo remain consistent.
Can I still make adjustments to the audio/video settings?
You sure can! Customize your audio and video settings – including adding Styles or audio fx – before you reach the preview screen with the pitch-shifter button. This way, you can combine all of your favorite tools to create the perfect performance.
Does this work with every song in the app?
Yes, it does! Pitch-Shifting works with any song in our Songbook, so you’re free to adjust the key on all your favorite tracks! Get creative and see what you can come up with!
Can I use pitch-shifting for group performances or duets?
Absolutely! It’s available now for VIP users on both iOS and Android for solo performances, group recordings, and duet invites - the initial invites you create to encourage others to join you in singing a song. Join an existing pitch-shifted track or create your own!
Can I preview the pitch changes before recording?
Yes, you can. When you adjust the key with the slider bar, you’ll hear the changes in real time. This lets you experiment with different keys until you find the one that you’d like to record with.
How do I know if a performance has been pitch-shifted?
Look for the new pitch-shift icon! This indicator appears on all performances that have used the feature and shows exactly how many semitones the track has been adjusted to (up to ± 6 semitones). You’ll find this icon on the Now Playing screen, on bookmarked invites, Profile pages, in your invitation notifications, and when browsing invites in the Songbook. It’s impossible to miss!
What’s a semitone?
A semitone is the smallest movement in music, sometimes referred to as a “half step.” It’s like taking one small step on a staircase of sound, or moving from one piano key to the next.
Can I change the pitch if I join a duet or group recording?
No — only the person who creates the initial recording can adjust the pitch of the backing track. Once it’s set, that becomes part of the performance for everyone who joins. If you want to sing the same song in a different key, you’ll need to start your own duet invite or group recording and use the pitch slider to set the key to your preference.
